Forklifts are a great utility for transferring materials from one warehouse to another. These mini truck are perfect for lifting and transferring loads that weigh up to thousands of pounds. Apart from warehouse usage, forklifts can also be used for commercial purposes such as shifting of house furniture while moving to new house.
Forklifts are either operated on gas/diesel, electricity, compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquid propane gas (LPG). There are several types of trucks available in the market. This article briefly overviews the types of forklifts that are available in the market. Forklifts are classified based upon their structure and fuel option that the forklift supports.
1. Electric motor driven trucks
Such forklifts run on industrial batteries and make use of transistor for controlling travel and hoist functions. Electric motor rider can either be cushion or pneumatic tire lift truck. Outdoor pneumatic lift trucks can be used on both smooth and uneven grounds. It's suggested to use such truck while operating in muddy and uneven grounds. Cushion trucks as the name suggests are advisable to be used on smoother grounds. They are meant for indoor purposes.
2. Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
Narrow aisle trucks are of small types designed to operate in narrow spaces such as racking shelves in the work environment. There utility is just not limited to narrow spaces. These vehicles have other features too such as speed and efficiency. Many firms go for this type as they occupy very less space and are a great utility.
3. Solid Cushion and Electric solid cushion trucks
Solid cushion trucks make use of tires made up of solid rubber or polyurethane. This makes them durable to punctures and also requires less maintenance than pneumatic lift truck. But as they are made up of solid tires their capability to absorb shocks lessens. Electric solid cushion lift truck are similar to cushion trucks. The only difference they have is that they make use of batteries with different voltage.
4. Internal Combustion Trucks
There are two variants in internal combustion trucks; they are cushion tires and pneumatic tires. Forklifts with cushioned tires are meant for smoother surfaces whereas the ones with pneumatic tires wok finely for both smooth and rough surfaces. These lifts use LPG, CNG, Gasoline, and Diesel as fuel options. For outdoor purposes the forklifts that run on gas are better and for indoor purposes LPG can be used. All these lifts cost less than electric driven forklifts but the fuel and maintenance cost make the usage of such forklifts expensive.
5. Electric and Internal Combustion engine forklifts
Electric forklifts are the one that run on batteries. These batteries are to be charged periodically to make the trucks keep on functioning. Since they are electric give they do not emit any pollutants and hence they are perfect for indoor usage. They have lower maintenance and operational costly than the combustion forklifts.
